Being in the market for a new job can be a challenging experience, with many questions along the way. Take a closer look at our hiring process to get better acquainted with what you can expect along the way with PNC.
Step 1: Searching for Opportunities
Searching for Jobs
Begin by clicking "Search Jobs" at the top of the page.
Reviewing Your Results
As you review the search results, look over the details carefully to identify jobs that could be a good fit for your talents. If you find an interesting opportunity and are ready to submit to the job, click Apply.
Creating or Accessing Your Account
Your account – or Profile – is a general record of your experience that includes your resume, cover letter and other relevant skills (such as foreign languages, certifications and licenses).
There are many benefits to having an account. For example, you can view the status of your submissions and access your resume for future use.
After identifying a position that matches your qualifications, you should express your interest by clicking Submit to Job. The recruiter will review your profile, along with all other profiles submitted for the job. You can expect to receive an email within approximately 10 business days, advising of your status and any next steps.
Did You Know? Creating a profile allows you to view the status of your submissions and access your resume for future use. If your qualifications aren't a match for the position, your profile will remain active and a recruiter may contact you if another position looks to be a match.
Step 2: Matching Candidates to Jobs
Now that you've submitted your interest to a specific job, your profile will be reviewed and you will receive notification regarding any potential next steps.
The Pre-Employment Assessment
Some positions require an assessment, either online or by phone, at this stage to measure your skills, knowledge and abilities for the job. If you're invited to complete an assessment through an email, please set aside some time to complete it within the required time frame.
If your qualifications appear to be a potential match for a position, a recruiter will contact you to gain more insight into your experience. This conversation is also your chance to ask questions about job requirements, location, work environment or other information that's important to you about the position.
As a next step, you may be invited to an interview with a hiring manager or other representative from that team. Because of the number of applications submitted, it might take longer than you expect to hear about next steps. If other applicants' skills and knowledge are a better fit for the position, you'll be notified by email that your submission is no longer being considered.
Did You Know? While you're waiting to hear from us about next steps, you may want to consider other positions. You may apply for up to five positions within each seven-day period.
Step 3: The Interview
Preparing for Your Interview
If you’re selected to move forward in the process, a recruiter will work with you to schedule an interview and letting you know what to expect.
Some interviews are conducted by phone, while others are face-to-face. If your interview is by phone, plan to find a quiet spot where you’ll be away from interruptions. If travel is required for an in-person meeting, you may be contacted by a specialist to coordinate transportation and accommodations. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Stay Up-to-Date: Make sure your resume reflects your most current experience. It’s a good idea to review the job description and your resume just prior to the interview so that the specifics are fresh in your mind.
- Know Your Strengths: Be ready to discuss how your skills and expertise fit the needs of the team or department.
- Be Strategic: Prepare for behavioral interview questions. Think about specific examples that show you how you have used critical skills that demonstrate your ability to succeed at that job.
- Utilize Resources: It's helpful to understand the business. Research public information about PNC and the area of business for which you are interviewing. This insight can be helpful in composing questions for the interviewer.
After the Interview
After your interview, the recruiter will contact you with any updates on your status and may also be able to tell you what to expect next - whether there are additional steps and how long the rest of the process could take. You can also use this time to gain insight and feedback about your interview performance.
If, in spite of your best efforts, you don't progress beyond the first or second interview, your profile will remain active in our system. You might consider asking the recruiter for recommendations on other areas or positions that may be a fit.

Step 4: The Offer
Receiving an Offer
If you’ve been selected for the position, the recruiter will contact you with a verbal offer of employment followed by an official offer letter via email. Please note that all offers are contingent upon successfully fulfilling pre-employment qualifications such as drug testing and background checks.
If you accept the offer and meet all pre-employment qualifications, your recruiter will work with you to determine a start date for your new position.
If You Don't Receive an Offer
If an offer is not presented to you, please remember that the number of applicants PNC receives far surpasses the number of job openings. Use what you've learned in this process to refine your focus and search.
