Business Credit - Field Examination | Summer Internship Program Details
PNC Business Credit falls under PNC’s Corporate & Institutional Banking Division. PNC Business Credit is one of the top asset-based lenders in the country, with 40 offices nationwide and more than $44 billion in commitments. PNC Business Credit provides senior secured financing with expanded capabilities including junior secured, second lien and recurring revenue loans to private equity firms and mid-sized companies. With extended reach to Canada and the UK, PNC Business Credit offers cross-border financing for U.S.-based companies, as well as stand-alone financing in those countries.
PNC Business Credit’s lending approach seeks to provide maximum senior debt availability through asset leverage by finding value in accounts receivable, inventory, machinery and equipment, trademarks and patents, real estate and intellectual property.
The Business Credit track of the Corporate & Institutional Banking (C&IB) Undergraduate Summer Internship Program offers interns exposure to the Field Examination, Underwriting, Relationship Management and Business Development roles within PNC Business Credit.
Upon completion of the program, interns will recognize the importance that each of these functions have on the deal-making process.
What a Typical Day Looks Like
During the 10-week program, interns will attend Orientation and Asset Based Lending Basics Training (1 week), followed by 4 weeks accompanying / assisting the Field Examination department onsite at a borrowers location in evaluating the credit quality and integrity of the collateral pledged as security on loans to existing borrowers. Additionally, 1-2 weeks assisting the Underwriting department with the preparation of financing presentations; 1 day shadowing a Relationship Manager responsible for administering the loan and managing the borrower relationship; 1 day shadowing a Business Development Officer responsible for identifying credit opportunities. The final week of the internship program is held in Philadelphia, PA where interns prepare and present an 8-10 minute presentation on an ABL topic of their choice to Business Credit senior leaders.
The Summer Internship Program is a direct pipeline for talent into the Business Credit track of the Corporate & Institutional Banking (C&IB) Development Program, providing interns with an unparalleled opportunity to learn the business while gaining visibility among the firm's senior leadership.
Upon successful completion of the Summer Internship Program, interns may be offered an opportunity to join the C&IB Development Program after graduation.
The Business Credit track is a dynamic experience which prepares participants for Field Exam Analyst roles.

Preferred Areas of Study: Accounting, Economics, or Finance. Basic Accounting classes are recommended with additional upper level accounting classes encouraged.
Desired Skills: Highly motivated, results-driven, exceptional quantitative skills, including the abilities to analyze data sets and apply financial and analytical theories. Competitive spirit yet the ability to work well on a team. Impressive written and verbal communication skills, robust work ethic, with strong attention to detail.
Minimum Requirements: Undergraduate student in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year school or university, 3.2 GPA and access to reliable transportation for handling local assignments.
