Day 6: Upcycled Goose Appliqué Throw Blanket

Winter is better when you’re “a-laying” with a cozy customized throw like this one.

  • 1 Sheet Double-Stick Fusible Web
  • Scissors
  • Ink Jet Printer
  • ¼ Yard Solid Black Woven Cotton Fabric (such as quilting fabric)
  • Iron
  • Quilted Throw Blanket
  • Child-Size Bow Tie
  • Needle and Thread

  1. Cut one sheet of double-stick fusible web into an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet. Find a goose silhouette image and print the mirror image of it onto the grid side of the double-stick fusible web sheet.
  2. Peel away the white backing and press the sheet, tacky side down, onto your black cotton fabric. Lightly run a slightly warm iron over the goose transfer and fabric.
  3. Use your scissors to cut out all three layers (the grid paper, webbing, and fabric) of the goose.
  4. To transfer to your quilted throw, peel away the grid paper and place webbing-side down onto a corner of the quilt.
  5. Using your iron on the “cotton” setting, press down and iron over your goose for at least 20 seconds.
  6. Dress your goose up by sewing the bow tie to its neck.

Tips & Tricks

  • For best results, wash, dry and iron your cotton fabric before using it.
  • Want a no-sew option? Use a hot glue gun instead of a needle and thread.
  • If you don’t have a printer, try tracing a goose silhouette onto the double-stick fusible web sheet by hand.
