Relationships, family and community.
These themes surround the annual PNC Father/Son Challenge, an event created in 1995 by the International Management Group (IMG) where professional golfers play competitive golf alongside their children. PNC has served as the presenting tournament sponsor since 2012.
The 2016 tournament was held Dec. 8-11, at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Grande Lakes in Orlando, Fla. Professional golfer David Duval and stepson Nick Karavites took home the trophy.
This event continues to be a favorite event among the professionals because they experience it and create memories with their families in a way that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.
“The whole tournament is all about family. For these youngsters, it is an amazing few days where they can rub shoulders with some of the legends of the game, deepen friendships and create new memories,” said Bernhard Langer, who competed in 2016 with his daughter Christina.
In the weeks leading up to the tournament, PNC works with the LPGA and the Champions Tour to host golf clinics for children. PNC also holds a Business and Birdies women in business seminar, sponsors a half marathon and hosts a family 5k at the tournament, among other community activities.
In summer of 2016, PNC held three PNC Family Challenge events in Chicago, Columbus and St. Louis. Family duos golfed for a chance to win spots in the official Pro-Am of the PNC Father/Son Challenge and play alongside some of the most famous names in golf.
