PNC Extra Time℠
Available for Select PNC Customers
Welcome to PNC Extra Time
With PNC Extra Time, you can receive additional alerts via text or e-mail that may help you in the event of an overdraft.
As a valued PNC customer who uses PNC Alerts for Overdraft and/or Insufficient Funds notifications, you have been selected to participate in a pilot of PNC Extra Time.
PNC Extra Time is a free service that offers you enhanced alerts plus additional time to remedy an overdraft situation.
For each instance that your PNC account is overdrawn or is in jeopardy of being overdrawn, you will receive up to three timed alerts. These notifications will be delivered to you via your existing PNC Alert preferences (email, text or both).
Frequently Asked Questions
During the PNC Extra Time pilot program, you may receive up to three timed alerts delivered to you via your existing alert preferences (email, text or both) with specific instructions to help you avoid overdrawing your account and incurring related fees.
If you overdraw your account on a weekend or bank holiday, you will receive the PNC Extra Time alerts on Monday or the first business day following the holiday.
Sample scenario: You have an available account balance of $100 and an item(s) for $200 is presented for payment from your account.
- At approximately 5 pm ET that day, you will receive the first PNC Extra Time alert which informs you that you are at risk of overdrawing your account.
- The first PNC Extra Time alert tells you that you can avoid overdrawing your account and incurring related fees if you make a qualified deposit by 10 pm ET that evening.
- If you choose not to take any action after receiving the first PNC Extra Time alert, you will receive the second Extra Time alert at approximately 6 am ET the following morning.
- The second PNC Extra Time alert provides the total amount you must deposit to bring your account to a positive balance. It lets you know that if you make a qualified deposit by 11 am ET that morning, PNC will pay any returned items and reverse any fees you may have incurred.
- At approximately 3 pm ET that same day, you will receive the Non-Sufficient Funds alert.
- The Non-Sufficient Funds alert contains the details about the items that overdrew your account, whether they were paid or not, and lists any fees that were charged to your account. This alert is similar to the alert you may be familiar with receiving today.
Examples of qualified deposits:
If you receive the first PNC Extra time alert and make a deposit prior to 10 pm ET, a qualified deposit may consist of:
- Cash deposited at a PNC ATM or at a PNC branch.
- A transfer of funds from a PNC account performed at a PNC ATM, PNC Online Banking or PNC Mobile Banking.
- A PNC check deposited at a PNC ATM, PNC branch or via PNC Mobile Banking.
If you receive the second PNC Extra time alert and make a deposit prior to 11 am ET, a qualified deposit may consist of:
- Cash deposited at a PNC ATM or at a PNC branch.
- A transfer of funds from a PNC account performed at a PNC ATM, PNC Online Banking or PNC Mobile Banking.
- Please note: Unlike the first PNC Extra time alert, a PNC check deposited after the second PNC Extra time alert is not considered a qualified deposit.
There may be times where we pay your items when a deposit was made using a non-PNC check, and charge you an Overdraft Item Fee. With PNC Extra Time, that fee could be reversed from your account, the following business day. Learn more about PNC's Consumer Funds Availability Policy.
