Our PNC banking team looks at our relationship holistically. They understand our business and keep up with our needs. Whether it’s a line of credit, loan or some other financial product or service, we know that PNC will have the right solution for us.
Ologie: A Study in Business Success
When Bev Ryan started her one-person graphic design studio in 1987, the recent college graduate was more focused on making her rent payment each month than building a multimillion-dollar enterprise. But her early work for nonprofit organizations earned Bev a steady stream of referrals that put Ologie on track to becoming an award-winning national branding firm.
Today, Ologie’s 85 associates offer strategy, design, writing, film and digital communication services to national clients in a wide range of industries. The firm also stays true to its nonprofit roots, donating time and talent to numerous arts and other charitable organizations throughout Columbus.
“We work with clients we believe in,” says Bev. “Our challenge is to get to the core of each client’s authentic story and share their message in compelling ways that move audiences. ‘Ology’ means ‘the study of things.’ Studying our clients sets the groundwork for the successful evolution of their brands.”
Ologie’s studio is 30,000 square feet of creative space – 8,000 square feet of which is corkboard. Bev explains, “We are surrounded by ideas here, because when we see a great idea, we tear it out and stick it on the wall. Then we talk about it – sometimes internally, sometimes with our client. Collective thinking generates the strongest ideas.”
Building a Team of Experts
In the company’s early years, Ologie struggled, Bev says, because she lacked the business expertise to take it to the next level. “We were creating great work, but I didn’t have knowledge or insight into the financial aspects of operating a company,” she says. “I knew I needed to grow Ologie big enough that we could hire someone to manage that side of the business.”
She did, and the business has thrived. While Bev reports that she is much more financially savvy today, she relies on her CFO and financial team for sound strategic direction. She relies on her financial team at PNC, too.
“We moved our entire relationship over to PNC about 10 years ago, and PNC has been an amazing partner,” she shares. “We never feel like ‘just another customer.’ Our banking team looks at our relationship holistically. They understand our business and keep up with our needs. Whether it’s a line of credit, loan or some other financial product or service, we know that PNC will have the right solution for us. I’ve made PNC my personal bank as well.”
