Every Day's a Party at Miche® Bag
Wendy Crouse loves a good party. Who can blame her? Home parties are the foundation of her wildly successful distributorship, Central PA Miche Bag, which is on course to gross $1 million in only its second full year of operation.
With two decades of home-party planning experience, Wendy was working as a real estate specialist for a large Pittsburgh corporation in 2009 when her sister-in-law introduced her to Miche® Bag, a two-year-old West Coast company looking for franchisees for its patented designer handbag, sold as a base with interchangeable outer shells. Wendy investigated and made the investment.
"I knew that this concept would sell itself," she says. "The quality is outstanding, the versatility amazing and the price point perfect."
In the remaining months of 2009, Wendy's franchise generated $375,000 in revenue. In 2010, revenues exceeded $800,000. This year, with five full-time employees managing administrative functions, 150 field representatives leading home parties and 10 retail boutiques selling merchandise, Central PA Miche Bag promises to break the million-dollar mark. Already, it is the tenth-largest Miche franchise nationwide in terms of sales (among approximately 450 franchises). Wendy is focused on taking the No. 1 spot.
"Miche Bag isn't just about selling handbags; it's about giving back," Wendy explains. "The more we grow, the more we can give. Our parent corporation donated more than $700,000 to cancer research last year; my franchise contributed $10,000 of that. We also donate handbags to cancer patients and visit them regularly to reassure them of our commitment to helping find the cure. We intend to double our efforts this year and continue to inspire women to be the best they can be, no matter what their circumstances."
A Creative Way to Give Back
Wendy's banking practices are centered around giving back to her customers, employees and sales reps as well as charitable institutions. She uses PNC products that enable her to accumulate points, which she uses toward incentives and donations.
"We use merchant services, payroll services, the debit card and the business checking account for retailers. My employees have PNC checking accounts, too," Wendy shares. "I don't understand why a business owner would bank with anyone other than PNC. I had never before experienced the level of personal commitment and service I get from my banking team. I can't imagine ever leaving PNC."
She also can't imagine leaving Miche Bag. "I started this business as a sideline, but within a few months, I was able to retire from my real estate position and make Miche Bag my full-time career," she says. "I love it. We're growing like crazy and making a real difference."
