Sherry Harsch-Porter
President
The Porter Bay Group, Inc.

"PNC's commitment to me and other women business owners is not just lip service. My banking team has supported me through every step of my business progression. When I move, they move with me. It's an amazing relationship - one that I know will continue for a long time."

Empowering Generations to Thrive

Coach. Lead. Teach. Inspire. That's what Sherry Harsch-Porter, president and founder of The Porter Bay Group, an executive coaching and business consulting firm, believes she was meant to do. With a background that includes executive positions with DuPont and AT&T/Southwestern Bell, Sherry built The Porter Bay Group on a solid foundation of experience in human resources, mergers and acquisitions, international marketing, business development, finance and information systems. She uses this expertise to help senior-level executives lead confidently and effectively.

Her core philosophy is "Identify and leverage your signature strengths, and you can achieve virtually anything" - a tenet that's clearly worked for her. The Porter Bay Group has developed a core client base that includes a range of organizations from the Fortune 50 to high-growth entrepreneurs and the social sector.

Sherry is chapter chair for the St. Louis Chapter of the Women Presidents' Organization (WPO), a member-based organization for women-owned businesses that generate $1 million-plus annually (only 6% of privately held companies hurdle this threshold). In this role, Sherry facilitates peer-to-peer coaching for second-stage female entrepreneurs, helping members grow their businesses to create jobs and economic opportunity. Her relationship with the WPO has strengthened her ties with PNC and PNC Wealth Management, a corporate and regional sponsor of the organization.

"PNC believes in the power of women business owners," she says. "In fact, PNC and its predecessors, National City and Pioneer Bank, have supported me through every step of my business progression over the past decade."

"No matter what comes up personally or professionally, PNC has a solution," says Sherry, who relies on PNC for checking, merchant services, credit cards, a line of credit and more. "Whether it is Jared Howe, my branch manager, or Rick Sems, president and CEO of Missouri Banking, each member of my PNC team sees me as an individual rather than a number. The relationships are genuine."

Sherry is also passionate about helping future leaders. A doctoral candidate at Taos Institute/Tilburg University, she works with the College Access Pipeline (CAP) to identify solutions to the downward momentum in college graduation among underserved St. Louis youth. Her approach is to study successful under-resourced first-generation college graduates so that their experiences can be leveraged to help others aspire to, and succeed in, college.

"You learn much more by studying what went right rather than what went wrong," explains Sherry, who lives by her own words. Her achievements are a testament to the soundness of a philosophy that leverages your own signature strengths. "The best is yet to come in my business and my work within the community," she says. "I've only just begun to pull the threads of my mission together."
