Purchasing PNC Bank Visa Gift Cards

How does my PNC Bank Visa Gift Card work?
The PNC Bank Visa Gift Card is a prepaid card that carries a fixed cash amount determined by the giver at the time the card is purchased. The gift card can be used to pay for purchases, either by signature or by PIN, anywhere Visa cards are accepted. Each time the gift card is used the amount that is spent will automatically be deducted from the balance remaining on the gift card.
Who can buy a PNC Bank Visa Gift Card?
Only PNC customers can purchase PNC Bank Visa Gift Cards. Anyone can use a PNC Bank Visa Gift Card.
Where can I buy a PNC Bank Visa Gift Card?
You can purchase a PNC Bank Visa Gift Card at most of our PNC branches.

Using PNC Bank Visa Gift Cards

How do I activate my PNC Bank Visa Gift Card?
Cards purchased at a PNC branch will require activation by calling 866-730-8399 toll free, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When you call, you will need to provide us with your 16 digit card number and the 3 digit code from the signature panel on the back of the card.
Does my PNC Bank Visa Card come with a PIN (personal identification number)?
Yes. Upon activating the card, you will be able to obtain your PIN.

NOTE: A PIN may only be used at merchant locations. You may not obtain cash back from merchants and you may not make withdrawals at ATMs.
Should I push "debit" or "credit" on the keypad when using my gift card?
For signature transactions, choose the "credit" payment option and sign the receipt. For PIN transactions, choose the "debit" payment option and enter your PIN.

NOTE: Not all merchants will be able to accept signature and/or PIN transactions.
How can I track my gift card balance?
It is important to know your balance before using your gift card to make a purchase. You can review your balance and transaction history online at pnc.com/giftcard or by calling 866-730-8399.
Can I make a purchase for more than the amount remaining on the PNC Bank Visa Gift Card?
Some merchants will permit you to use the card for part of the purchase price and pay the remainder with another form of payment. If you aren't sure whether the gift card balance will cover the purchase, be sure to ask the merchant if you can pay any remainder through another payment method.
How long can I use the PNC Bank Visa Gift Card?
Your PNC Bank Visa Gift Card may be used until the balance is $0 or the card expires, whichever occurs first. Your PNC Bank Visa Gift Card expires on the date that is embossed on the front of your card. If there are funds remaining on your gift card when the card expires, you can call 1-866-730-8399 to request a check for any remaining balance.
Is there a fee for using the card?

For PNC Bank Visa Gift Cards purchased on or before September 3, 2013
While there is no fee to use the card for the entire life of the card, after the card has expired, an expired card monthly maintenance fee of $3.95 will be deducted each month from the balance on the card if there has been no activity during the previous twelve months. Activity does not include the imposition of a fee, the replacement of a lost or stolen card or a balance inquiry. If the card balance is zero or becomes zero as a result of the fee, the card will be cancelled.

For PNC Bank Visa Gift Cards purchased after September 3, 2013
While there is no fee to use the card for the entire life of the card, after 12 consecutive months of inactivity (beginning with the date the card is purchased), an Inactivity Fee of $2.50 per month will be assessed against the balance on the card and continue until the card is used again or the balance is $0. Inactivity means that there have been no purchases made using the card. Fees are not considered purchases. If the card balance is zero or becomes zero, the card will be canceled.

Contact us at 866-730-8399 or go to pnc.com/giftcard for information about this fee.

What should I do if a merchant declines my Gift card?
It is possible the card's available balance was less than the purchase amount. To avoid these situations inform the merchant of the card's remaining balance and use another form of payment to pay the difference. Some merchants - for example, restaurants, mail-order companies, rental car companies and cruise lines - require that the gift card's available balance is greater than the purchase amount to ensure sufficient funds for tips or incidental expenses.
