Colleen Moore Mezler, PRC
President & CEO,
Moore Research Services, Inc.

"We have been customers of PNC and its predecessors for 41 years. We've built great relationships and have never even considered switching to another bank. PNC has offered us unwavering support."

Generational Momentum: The Evolution of the Family Business

When Peggy Moore established Moore Research Services in the family basement in 1969, her goal was to find a way to contribute to the family income while staying home to care for her four children. Four decades later, with Peggy's daughter Colleen at the helm, Moore Research has grown into a global player in the research arena.

"My mom was well ahead of her time, and she built the foundation for a very strong company," says Colleen Moore Mezler, who took the reins as president and sole owner of the full-service market research firm in 1993. "Always thinking strategically, she found ways to grow, including expanding geographically, with her clients. She also recognized the increasing role of technology on our industry. When she turned the company over to the second generation, she charged us with exploring the broad range of electronic tools available to us."

Those tools - specifically, Web-based research and social media - have enabled Colleen and her team to expand the company in a variety of ways. Experts in both qualitative and quantitative consumer opinion research, the team now relies strongly on electronic surveys and social media recruitment (for focus groups, for example) in addition to traditional research methods - phone interviews, mail surveys, in-home product placements and the like.

The firm is thriving in the down economy. Colleen explains, "In times of economic hardship, manufacturers and marketers are more apt to make sure that they're offering the products and services consumers want before they invest millions in production or training. We provide them with data to help them make informed business decisions."

Geographically, Moore Research is growing, too, helping clients expand into new markets. "One of our Fortune 500 clients, a cosmetic manufacturer, is moving into China, Russia, Brazil and Poland. We offer the resources to help them understand their new consumers," says Colleen.

Behind the scenes, PNC offers resources to fuel Moore Research's growth. Peggy and Colleen have relied on PNC and its predecessors throughout the life of their business.

"We've been customers of PNC and its predecessors for 41 years," says Colleen. "We've built great relationships and have never even considered switching to another bank. PNC has offered us unwavering support."

Continuing to build on that support, the expertise of her team and the ever-expanding capabilities of technology, Colleen looks toward a promising future for Moore Research. "We are poised to grow with our clients as they move into new markets both domestically and internationally," she says. "It's very exciting to help them navigate new frontiers. Our company, after all, was built on that pioneering spirit! As long as there are new challenges, Moore Research will provide new solutions. That's how my mom did it, and how we'll do it for generations to come."
