Know What Information Is Needed

Applicants will need their U.S. issued Social Security number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). If you are 18 years or older you will also need a valid U.S. Driver's license, State ID, passport[9], or Military ID for verification.

Additional forms of ID may be accepted when applying in-branch. Contact your local branch if you have questions about acceptable forms of identification.

Non-U.S. citizens who do not have a Social Security number or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number can apply in person at a PNC branch and provide:

  • A valid passport with a photograph, along with a photocopy of your passport
  • A second form of ID, which can be your U.S. student visa or your U.S. student photo ID

PNC Simple Checking has guardrails to help prevent overspending

If your balance isn’t enough, we simply decline the charge and won’t charge you an overdraft fee

There are situations where your account may still become overdrawn. For example, gas stations often pre-authorize a set amount before they know the total, which might be less than what you actually spend. If you spend more than what's available in your account, because the transaction is already authorized, your account will become overdrawn. You still won't be charged a fee in these cases.

Access and Use Your Account Even if You Forget Your Debit Card

  • Add your card to your mobile wallet and check out with a tap of your phone.
  • Send money to people you know and trust with Zelle®[5] in the PNC Mobile app[4].
  • Card free ATM Access generates a one-time access code in the PNC Mobile app[4] to make ATM transactions without using your debit card. Note, this is only available at PNC ATMs.
