Thomas P. Melcher is executive vice president and managing executive of Hawthorn, a business unit dedicated to serving the needs of ultra-affluent families with investable assets of $20 million or greater. Melcher has national responsibility for this unit, overseeing both the investment process and all facets of client acquisition and servicing. In addition, he personally manages nearly $2 billion for ultra high-net-worth individuals and families and is a member of the PNC Wealth Management Investment Policy Committee, the Investment Advisor Research Committee and the Risk Management, Investment and Fiduciary Committee.

Melcher joined PNC (formerly Pittsburgh National Bank), in 1991 as a credit analyst in the Corporate Bank. In July of 1993, he transferred to Philadelphia and joined the Trust Division. In 1994, he was named director of the Investment Advisory and Trust Group for PNC Wealth Management where he managed personal trust and advisory accounts for ultra high-net-worth families and individuals. Prior to being named to his current position, he was senior vice president and chief investment officer for PNC Wealth Management in Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. In this capacity, he was responsible for investment activity in the market, including overseeing and communicating PNC's investment process and strategies to portfolio managers and clients. Melcher is a past recipient of PNC's Performance Award, the highest honor attainable by employees.

Melcher frequently appears on CNBC for his expert commentary, and has been quoted extensively in the financial press, including BusinessWeek, Barron's,and American Banker.  A frequent public speaker, he has presented at The Philadelphia Inquirer's Intelligent Investing Conference, the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Banks' Entrepreneur Forum and the PNC Executive Series at the Southern New Jersey Chamber of Commerce. Melcher was named one of the "Top 100 Wealth Advisors" in the nation by Worth Magazine in 2006 and 2007. In addition, in 2005 he was selected as one of the Philadelphia Business Journal's "40 Under 40", an award given to 40 of the region's top young professionals.

Melcher has pursued graduate work in investment management at Drexel University and graduated magna cum laude from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a bachelor of science degree in finance and economics.
